My wife got a weird email. It was from "rocketmail", a form of yahoo email. This is my new question: If person A sends an email to person B, then person B forwards the email to person C, can person C lookup the IP address? If so, how much detail will the person be able to find? Can they find the exact location and street address of the email that person A sent? What other information can they get? Thanks for any responses.|||It can only be traced to the persons internet provider. Any farther would require a court order by a judge.
EDIT: NO you do NOT need rocketmails permission! You will find the I.P. when you expand the emails header.|||You'd have to contact rocketmail to get the ip address the email was sent from and i doubt they'd give it to anyone other than the police. If you want to get the location of the person, you'd have to contact their isp and again they wouldn't give this information to anyone unless it was part of a criminal investigation.|||depending if it's static or dynamic, a static can be viewed on a map almost exactly, a dynamic can still be fairly detailed.
