Is it possible for a hacker to find your IP address from Yahoo! Answers?

I don't share photos, videos, voice calls or anything like that, just instant messaging.

Is there a reverse IP lookup tool that someone can obtain my IP address from an instant messenger on Yahoo! Answers?|||"Because someone can invade my account and change my password." - not with just an IP address they can't.

EDIT: Yes I am positive about this. An IP address tells someone absolutely nothing about any account. The most they can get from it is your rough geographical location - usually the nearest town or city and who your ISP is.

What is important is that you use a secure password. That is one at least 8 characters long, contains a mixture of upper and lower case characters, has non alphanumeric charcters, *? %26amp; etc. and does not contain any word found in a dictionary. Nearly all computer hacks are people getting or even being given other people's paswords - which is why you have to use secure ones.

Given what you believe then the internet couldn't exist. There is no way you can hide a server's address and the internet still function. Given that many people seem to think all you need is an IP address to hack into a computer then why is it news when a server gets broken into?

I run my own webserver which does make my computer more vulnerable. That is because I have open ports (pathways) through my router, the computer firewall and other security I've got to allow HTTP, FTP and some other types of access. If you look at http://brisray.com/comp/cwserver2.htm about 2/3rds of the way down that page you'll see what people are doing to break out of the server software into the system files, you'll see entries where people are trying to run a command prompt, look for vulnerabilites in the CGI directories, find their way through PHP weaknesses and even overload the system buffer - a very old method of atack.

To test your computer security then go here - https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 and run Shields Up. don't worry, this is the website of Gibson Research who are a well respected security and software recovery company. What Shields Up does is probe your computer for vulnerabilites and produce a report on what it found. Again don't worry, all the probe does is interegate the ports on your computer. It does not go deeper than that - it just wants to know what the port says about itself. With luck all of them should say nothing - not even the fact that they exist - it's a bit like how a stealth fighter evades detection by not bouncing radar signals back.

You are not alone in thinking that all someone needs is your IP address and suddenly everything you've ever done online or your computer is now somehow public property. It really isn't. Getting an IP address is just a very small part of getting inside someone's computer.|||Personaly I would not have your Yahoo Messenger linked from Yahoo Answers and Questions...awhile back some people were getting robot messages that were exploiting the system somehow and they were getting like "hello1", hello 2" showing up on there computer....and I noticed that the people who were asking those questions had their Y/A account linked to Yahoo Messenger......

Is it possible for a hacker to find your IP address from Yahoo answers.....anything is possible...but I doubt it.......their servers are pretty secure......|||I don't think so...|||Yep..but why would you care if someone has your IP?
